All went well for a few years up until 5/11/99. I had just had the engine rebuilt:
It was the evening of 5/11/99 and I finally got my jetting down and my bike was running strong. Bruce calls me up and wants to go to this empty parking lot by his house to break in his new rear tire. So I go out to meet him, and after we pull into the lot, we pass slowly through the gravel at the entrance. He is in front and takes off, it is a long entrance. I give him plenty of time to get well in front of me. I roll on the gas and bring up my front end. I had already done several first gear wheelies that day to get used to the response from my changes. I am in a wheelie and shift to second and that is when all hell broke loose. My rear tire spun on me and slid out to the right as I also got farther back. I remember seeing the pavement just below my ass. I let off on the throttle a little and bam, the front end slammed back down. The bike was crossed up so to speak and I tried to ride it out. No luck, I held on for a few wobbles and was thrown forward. Bruce said from the marks, that I slid about 20 yards and the bike went about fourty before it was stopped by a curb. The bike only slid on the left side, so the right side was untouched. I on the other hand was hit on all sides. I had the top half of my 2 peice leathers on, helmet, gloves, long pants and boots. Well the jacket did its job. If it was not for the riding style jacket with the zip closure and velcro at the end of the arm and my glove velcroed up around my wrist for support, the medics said that my bone probably would have popped right out. I admit and realize this was human error and don't blame the road or the bike, after all it is a honda and is perfect :) hehe
You can see more of the bike and jacket, etc on the:
As you can see, the front forks are bent, mirror, tank, handlebar, engine cover, and plastic are all damaged. The rear section was also scrapped up and cracked. The peg broke off too. Parts of my body broke too. :(
So onto Rebuild #2
